Recommendations for the perfect carry-on suitcase

Perfect Carry-on Suitcase

I recommend a carry-on suitcase with dimensions of 55x40x20 cm. This size is accepted on board with nearly all airlines (provided that a large cabin bag is included in your fare).

🏆 Since 2016, I’ve been testing carry-on suitcases and have created a list of top picks. All ‘size S’ models are suitable for Jet2.

Jet2 Cabin Luggage – What’s Allowed Inside?

Heed these hand luggage restrictions

Hand luggage is subject to thorough security checks for safety. Dangerous items are not allowed on board. This mainly refers to items that could cause significant harm.

Sometimes, whether an item is deemed dangerous can be a grey area, and the final call is made by airport security staff. Here’s a brief guide for clarity:

Hand Luggage: What is allowed inside
Permitted items include liquids up to 100ml, cosmetics up to 100ml, deodorant up to 100ml, electronic devices, razors where the blades are not exposed, electric shavers, medications for the duration of the trip, contraceptive pills, solid foods, baby food, power banks up to 100Wh, duty-free purchases, e-cigarettes, and small musical instruments.
Prohibited items include weapons, incapacitating devices, sharp and pointed objects, tools, blunt instruments, explosives and flammable substances, and liquids over 100ml.

Liquids in Jet2 Hand Luggage

What is allowed?

At most british and international airports, liquids in hand luggage are currently limited by the 100ml rule, requiring them in containers no larger than 100ml within a transparent, 1-litre bag. By June 2024, the UK plans to abolish this rule, with London City, Teeside International, and Jersey airports already allowing up to 2-litre containers.

However, as many international airports haven’t yet upgraded to the necessary technology, the 100ml rule will also remain vital for future travel outside the UK. Here’s a brief overview of the 100ml rule:

Liquid Hand Luggage Allowance
  • Only containers with a maximum capacity of 100ml are allowed.
  • All containers must be packed in a transparent, resealable 1-litre plastic bag.
  • The plastic bag must be fully sealed.
  • Each passenger is allowed only one bag.
  • The number of containers is not limited as long as the total volume does not exceed 1 litre.
  • Liquids in a container larger than 100ml are prohibited.
It’s not the amount of liquid that matters, but the maximum capacity of the containers – for example, a 200ml bottle that’s only half full is still prohibited.

To adhere to the 100ml rule as effectively as possible, consider purchasing dedicated toiletry bags for your liquids. Bags that come equipped with bottles are particularly useful for decanting personal care products.

  • Mr George Nicholson says:

Can I carry an EMPTY 500ml water bottle in my cabin luggage on a Jet2 flight?

    • Sebastian says:

Yes, you can carry an empty 500ml water bottle in your cabin luggage on a Jet2 flight. Empty water bottles are allowed through security, and you can fill it up once you’ve passed the security checkpoint. However, be cautious with glass and metal bottles, as depending on their type and size, they may be prohibited in hand luggage for security reasons.

  • Mal says:

Does the Jet2 hand baggage allowance account for discrepancies in dimensions? For example, a bag that is 50x50x25. I recall that some airlines consider the total dimensions, so the example I’ve given has a volume less than the Jet2 specification.

    • Sebastian says:

From what I understand, Jet2 uses a baggage sizer to check cabin luggage dimensions. If your luggage doesn’t fit within this framework, it needs to be checked in. Adherence to these dimensions is crucial to ensure that luggage fits into the overhead compartments. Therefore, I don’t believe a suitcase with a width of 50cm would be allowed on board. For a definitive answer, I recommend contacting Jet2’s customer service directly. Safe travels!

  • Jayne says:

I have two 22kg pieces of luggage booked for Turkey. Can I just bring one suitcase on the way to Turkey and two on the way back, or do I have to bring them both directions?

    • Sebastian says:

If your ticket includes an allowance for two pieces of luggage on both flights, you can indeed choose to bring only one suitcase on your outbound flight to Turkey and then two suitcases on your return flight. The total number of bags you’re allowed doesn’t need to be the same in each direction, as long as it does not exceed the limit set for each individual flight.
